This past July Kansas City hosted the 123 rd VFW National Convention. During the National Convention, we elected Timothy M. Borland, of Benson, Arizona as the new Commander-in-Chief Of the VFW. Borland served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 2007 and earned his eligibility for the VFW serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in defense of the Republic of Korea. Borland is the first Iraq Veteran to serve and the VFW Commander-in-Chief. During his acceptance speech, Borland announced that his Slogan for the year is "Every Veteran Counts” going on to state, "It’s our service to country, and courage

to defend that country that makes us veterans. Every veteran from every war and conflict is important.”

On August 22 nd we will be hosting the 10th Annual Swing for the Veterans Post’s golf tournament at The Deuce At the National Golf Club of Kansas City. We are continuing to look for Sponsors for the tournament. Remember the proceeds from this event go to help further our mission of assisting veterans and comrades in need. If anyone is interested in being a sponsor for the tournament or knows someone that might be interested in sponsoring the tournament information can be found on the

tournament website.

We will also have a table at the Parkville Days from August 19th -21st. We plan on selling refreshments at the event as well as handing out information to promote the VFW and our programs. We will be looking for volunteers to assist the event and will have a sign-up sheet emailed out in the coming weeks. We have canceled our August Post Breakfast in order to better focus our attention on the Parkville Days as well as our Swing for the Veterans Golf Tournament.

During the month of July, our Post’s Riders group held its first meeting with a good turnout of 8 Post and Auxiliary members. We continue to look to add new members. To be eligible you must be a Post or Auxiliary Member in good standings that rides a motorcycle greater than 500cc. For anyone interested we will be holding a monthly Riders meeting on the 4th Saturday of each month at the Parkville American

Legion starting at 9am. For August the meeting will be Saturday 8/27.

Looking Forward to September, the American Legion will be hosting a Breakfast the morning of 9/11 and is expecting a large turnout. As such, they have requested our assistance, if anyone would like to assist, they will accept any and all volunteers to lend a hand.

Welcome to August. This is a great month to go out and meet people before the seasons start changing on us again. I would love it if we could all bring in one new member this year. How cool would that be?! Welcome to our new members and welcome back to our 96 members. Let’s hit 100+ this year for membership. I am starting a new raffle this month and it will be 1 ticket for $1 and 6 tickets for $5. I will bring something to each meeting to raffle out and one person will go home with something fun. Also bring your change to the meetings, because we are collecting change for the Children’s National Home. Come to the next meeting and let’s start planning something fun to do. See you on Wednesday, August 24th at 7pm.

I would again like to bring to all the members attention some sites that could be crucial in keeping up with all the ins and outs of the VFW Auxiliary and what we are doing as a department. #4 is the link to the general orders and should be clicked on monthly to know what all is going on, coming up, and deadlines.

Annual dues have gone out. We need dues or the paper inside the dues notice by July 30th, which means if you haven’t paid your dues yet, they are late. Please pay them online at Malta ASAP. As always, we will have a lifetime membership drawing for all dues paid by October 31, 2022, and 2 Lifetime National Home Membership drawings as well for all members up to date by October 31st. If you know someone that qualifies and may be interested in joining us invite them to a meeting, event or one of our breakfasts on the 4th Saturday of the month at the Legion. We need to get everyone back involved and let them know they are not forgotten.

1.     Post Commander invites all members to help at the Parkville Days table where they will be trying to raise our membership for the VFW Riders, Post and Auxiliary. August 19th-August 21st.

2.     District Meeting is at the Eagles Lodge in St. Joseph (2004 N Belt Hwy, Sat. Joseph, MO 64506) on October 15th @ 1pm for Joint Meeting and 2pm for Aux meeting. All are welcome to attend.

3.     VFW Golf Tournament is coming up quickly, August 22nd, and I still need help with donations and such for the golf tournament. If you have a donation or can get one, please let me know and I can pick it up from you.

Get to know a new member each month.
