Comrades,
This past July Kansas City hosted the 123 rd VFW
National Convention. During the National Convention, we
elected Timothy M. Borland, of Benson, Arizona as the new
Commander-in-Chief Of the VFW. Borland served in the U.S. Army
from 1979 to 2007 and earned his eligibility for the VFW serving
in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in defense of the Republic of
Korea. Borland is the first Iraq Veteran to serve and the VFW
Commander-in-Chief. During his acceptance speech, Borland announced
that his Slogan for the year is "Every Veteran Counts” going
on to state, "It’s our service to country, and courage
to defend that country that makes us veterans. Every
veteran from every war and conflict is important.”
On August 22 nd we will be hosting the 10th Annual
Swing for the Veterans Post’s golf tournament at The Deuce At
the National Golf Club of Kansas City. We are continuing to look
for Sponsors for the tournament. Remember the proceeds from
this event go to help further our mission of
assisting veterans and comrades in need. If anyone is
interested in being a sponsor for the tournament or
knows someone that might be interested in sponsoring the
tournament information can be found on the
tournament website. https://events.golfstatus.com/event/2e082d7a-5da3-42b7-b637-

We will also have a table at the Parkville Days from
August 19th -21st. We plan on selling refreshments at the event
as well as handing out information to promote the VFW and our
programs. We will be looking for volunteers to assist the
event and will have a sign-up sheet emailed out in the coming
weeks. We have canceled our August Post Breakfast in order to
better focus our attention on the Parkville Days as well as
our Swing for the Veterans Golf Tournament.
During the month of July, our Post’s Riders group
held its first meeting with a good turnout of 8 Post
and Auxiliary members. We continue to look to add new members.
To be eligible you must be a Post or Auxiliary Member in good
standings that rides a motorcycle greater than 500cc. For anyone
interested we will be holding a monthly Riders meeting on the
4th Saturday of each month at the Parkville American
Legion starting at 9am. For August the meeting will
be Saturday 8/27.
Looking Forward to September, the American Legion
will be hosting a Breakfast the morning of 9/11 and is
expecting a large turnout. As such, they have requested our
assistance, if anyone would like to assist, they will accept
any and all volunteers to lend a hand.
